Whole School Concert

Monday 14th December- Please drop your child at our classroom at 4:30. The concert will now start at 5pm. Bright/colourful t-shirts and denim shorts/skirts/pants or dresses.

Whole School Concert & Awards Evening

On Monday 14th December we are having our whole school concert and awards night on the oval. Each year group will be performing a different song. We would love for the Kindy kids to wear a plain, brightly coloured t-shirt and denim bottoms e.g. jeans, denim shorts, denim skirt etc. More information about times will come soon.

Progress Files

OnFriday  we will be sending home children's grey Progress Files for you to have a look at the wonderful progress they have made this year. Please feel free to write a comment at the front, sign it and return it to Kindy as soon as possible. We would love for all Progress Files to be returned by the following Friday (week 8 ).

Our Class Party

On the day of our mini Christmas concert (Friday 11th December) we will be having a class party. We would love for each child to bring in a plate of food to share for lunch. We have put a list of foods up on the communication board outside our classroom, so please write your name down next to what you would like to bring. If you are bringing in cooked food, please can you cook it before you bring it in and we will simply re-heat it. (Our ovens aren't the greatest, so this would be greatly appreciated!) If you would prefer to drop food off just before 12pm, that would be fabulous too- whatever is easiest for you.

Elf on the Shelf

This morning after we played a game outside, we had a very special visit from the Elf on the Shelf. When we walked back inside the elf was sitting on top of the Smart Board. He had left a letter and put a story up on the Smart Board. We watched the story and read the letter he left us. The elf told the kids that he is magical, however if he is touched by children he loses his magic. He can only be moved by adults. He is magical and watches what the kids are doing all day long and then flies back to Santa each night to report back to him. The elf only moves when no one is looking, which the kids were all very excited about.

The elf also told us that we need to think of a name for him. We brainstormed some ideas and each wrote about what we wanted to call the elf in our special 'Elf Journals'. After lunch we voted on our favourite names and ended up choosing the name "Bauble". Please help your child share the magic of Elf on the Shelf and embrace all of their ideas about what he is up to. They truly loved it today and the smiles on their faces and the excitement they shared was beautiful. When you arrive at Kindy he may or may not be in a funny spot. Let the kids enjoy it, talk to them about what the elf has been doing but please remind them that they must not touch him, that way they all get to see him.

Important Events

I cannot believe we are already over half way through Term 4! We have lots of important dates coming up, so please note these down in your diary.

Our Christmas Concert

On Friday 11th December from 9.00am - 9.30am we will be having a mini Christmas concert, which we would love for parents to attend. We will be singing a couple of songs on the stage outside in our Nature Playground, handing out certificates to the children and giving you their portfolios with all their beautiful work.

On this day we will also be having our class party, where children will be able to wear Christmas clothes to school e.g: a Christmas t-shirt, red or green clothes, Santa hats etc. We will also be asking parents to bring in a plate of food to share for lunch. I will put a food list on the communication board soon.

Transition Day

Additionally, on Friday 11th December we will be having our whole school 'Transition Day' from 1.45 - 2.45. On this day children will find out which Pre-primary class they will be in next year. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to see their new classroom, meet their new teacher and find out which friends will be in their class.  It is a fabulous way to build some excitement about next year and relieve some nerves and anxiety on the first day.

Whole School Concert & Awards Night

On Monday 14th December we will be having our whole school concert and awards evening on the oval. Families are invited to come and watch as each year group will sing a different song. The Kindy children will sing first and are then able to sit with their parents and watch the rest of the concert or you may wish to take them home. More information about times will come soon.

Christmas Post Boxes

We have been making some special Christmas envelopes at Kindy. We will be hanging these envelopes up in our classroom later this week so that children can post Christmas cards to one other. I will put some checklists on the communication board with all the children's names so they can write some cards at home if they want to. Then in the morning before school children can post their cards in the post boxes and we will check them at the end of each day.

Library Books

Please return children's library books back to school next Tuesday. We will not be borrowing anymore library books this year, as we are trying to collect all the books before the end of the year. Children will still be able to go to the library to read books but they won't be able to borrow. Thanks!

Holiday Writing

It has been lovely seeing your beautiful kids this week and hearing all about their holidays. Be sure to check out their holiday writing that is hanging up in our classroom next time you come in. They did such a fabulous job! It is so exciting to see children now writing from left to right and using letters in their writing as well as some children sounding out their words and experimenting with full stops, capital letters and finger spaces.

5 cent Challenge

From Monday 12th October - Friday 4th December all classes at Aubin Grove will participate in a 5 cent challenge.

By themselves, 5 cent coins are not much, but together lots of these little silver pieces will raise money for the much needed shade sails around our school.

We will have a jar in our classroom so please fill it up with 5 cent coins if you have any lying around at home.

Term Four

I hope everyone has had a lovely two week break with your gorgeous kiddies. I'm looking forward to seeing them all on Wednesday and hearing about their holidays. I cannot believe we are about to enter into Term Four, it is amazing how quickly the year is passing by.

Our themes for this term will be 'Australia' and 'Christmas'. (If you do not want your child to participate in any Christmas activities please let me know). At the beginning of this term many of our learning activities will be based around the theme Australia and Australian animals. We currently have an Australian bush set up in our classroom where children can role play having a BBQ and a picnic as well camping in a tent. We will also be commencing the theme by reading one of my favourite stories: Possum Magic by Mem Fox.

 

This term we will continue to learn and practice alphabet sounds. We will be starting with the letter M. Please feel free to encourage the letter and sound we are learning each week at home. Some ideas of ways to do this are: asking them what sound the letter makes, playing I Spy, finding things around the house that start with that sound etc.

Reminders: 

• Please remember to return Kindy Home Reading books if you have not done so already. We will be sending new books home this Wednesday. A BIG thanks again to Emma for kindly offering to change the books each week.

• A new parent help roster is on the communication board outside our classroom.

• Friday 30th October (week three) is a school development day and there will be no school for students.

Our Excursion

This Wednesday 9th September is our Kindy excursion to CREEC- YAY! The weather is looking clear and sunny, which is fabulous. On the day please can you ensure children:

• Arrive at school at 8.30am. This will give us time to get into our excursion groups, sort our recess and lunch, go the toilet and walk out to the bus. We will be leaving our classroom to walk to the bus at 8.50.

• Are wearing their school uniform and sensible walking shoes.

•  Bring their hat, water bottle and school jacket/ jumper to school with their name clearly labelled on all items.

• Bring a disposable morning tea and lunch. Please note we will not be doing shared fruit on this day. Please make sure their recess and lunch are packed in a separate plastic bag or snap lock bag with their name clearly marked on each. On the day we will have a basket for children to put their recess and a basket for their lunch.

We should arrive back at school by approximately 2.00. We are looking forward to a fantastic day together. Thanks again to our wonderful parent helpers for volunteering their time. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask me.

Term Three Updates

What a fun term we are having! We have lots happening this term so please mark these important dates in your diary.

• A BIG thanks to everyone who has donated items for our shoe box appeal. We are very grateful for how much we have received already. If you are still wanting to bring things in please do so by Monday 24th August.

• On Wednesday 2nd September (Week 7) will be our Kindy photos. Please return envelopes to Mrs Aldersea or myself. On the day, please ensure children are wearing their school uniform. We cannot wait to see your children's big smiles and hair dos. 

• On Friday 4th September (Week 7) it is our Father's Day morning from 9.00 - 10.00. Dads, you are welcome to stay until 10.30 if you want to stay for a play. Thanks to everyone who has let us know who is attending. If you haven't done so already please let me know as soon as possible.

• On Wednesday 9th September we are going on our Kindy excursion to CREEC. Please return permission slips and payment in an enclosed envelope to the office by Friday 28th August. You can post envelopes in the 'office' post box outside the office.

• Today a very important note came home about our Kindy Sports Carnival. The date for the Kindy Group B sports carnival will be on Friday 18th September from 8.30 until approximately 10.30am. All children will be involved in a running race as well as some fun tabloid games.  This is the same day as the year 3-6 sports carnival. More information will be sent out closer to date. We hope you can make it!

Kindy Updates

This week we are revising the letters and sounds S, A, T. Please feel free to revise these sounds as much as possible at home too. We are concentrating on being able to hear the initial sounds in words also.

We have been extremely busy at Kindy and have started to put lots of new work up. So next time you are in, please have a look. Last week when we did the letter 'Tt' we made our own turtles, drew ten, tiny turtles and ordered numbers underneath them. We also made an octopus where we had to count out 8 tentacles and stamp 1-8 finger prints on each tentacles. We made some beautiful fish out of CD's too.

• Our Father's Day morning is on Friday 4th September from 9.00 - 10.00. Please write down who is able to attend our Father's Day morning on the communication board outside our classroom or email me.

• Please make sure you return Kindy Excursion Notes with money in a clearly marked envelope into the 'office' post box outside the front office. Payments and permission slips aren't due until Friday 28th August.

Donating Items for the Homeless:

In partnership with the Fremantle Football Club and the volunteer organisation Manna, Aubin Grove Primary School students and staff are seeking to help homeless and underprivileged people in Perth by providing items of comfort and need to help them get through the cold winter months still ahead.

Aubin Grove is doing this in support of a request made to the Fremantle Dockers by one of our Year One students, Kyla and her dad Danyle. Kyla and Danyle, who plays for the Dockers,  approached the Dockers to help them to help these people in need.  Fremantle FC in turn contacted us to see if we would become involved.

Aubin Grove PS has a proud history of supporting  humanitarian causes and understands that by becoming involved, our students develop an appreciation of how fortunate they are, that there are many others in the world, both near and far, who are far less fortunate than them and that they can actually help and make a difference to their lives.

No money is being requested. As you will see on the letter your child will bring home, we are seeking common everyday items that most of us would take for granted. Items will be packaged in a shoebox and distributed to the homeless by Manna.

Examples of items we are seeking include:
Soap/bodywash
Flannel/loofah
Hand towel
Shampoo/conditioner
Toothbrush/toothpaste/mouthwash
Thongs
Please see the list that we send home for further suggestions
As well as the above, there are also suggested items for children including textas, wind up crayons, glue sticks, pencil cases etc.

If you can help provide any of the items on the list, please send them in to your child’s classroom teacher by August 24.

Kindy Excursion

Tomorrow a special note will come home about a Kindy excursion that we would love for all children to attend.  On Wednesday ^9th September all the Kindy students will be going on an excursion to Canning River Eco Centre (CREEC).

Every Tuesday this term children are learning all about insects, mini beasts and living and non-living things with Mrs Clark. On our excursion children will be involved in hands on learning experiences to consolidate and expand on their knowledge of these topics. Children will be able to classify mini beasts collected from the river, look at them under a microscope, make a model of an insect out of clay as well go on a nature walk using binoculars.

We will depart school by bus at 9.00am and arrive back at school by approximately 2.15pm. The total cost of the excursion will be $14.50. Please read the attached consent form carefully and return your money and permission slip by Friday 28^th August. Please make sure all notes and money are placed in a clearly marked envelope in the 'office' post box at the front of the school.

On the day we will require four parent helpers. Please note that if you would like to help on the day you will be in charge of a small group of 5 children, which you will stay with for the day. It will also involve going on a walk with your group of children and talking about all the things they can find on their walk. Mrs Aldersea (Louanne) and I will be there too, however, Louanne will have a group and I will be floating amongst all the groups. If you are interested in helping on the day please let me know via email as soon as possible. If there are lots of volunteers I will do a raffle.

Children will need to wear their school uniform as well as comfortable shoes for walking. They will need to bring their hat and water bottle as well as a disposable lunch and recess packed in a plastic bag. I will upload another post closer to date with more information.

Reminders

Kindy Home Reading Information Night

This Tuesday 28th July at 7.00pm we will be holding an information night in the undercover area. All of us Kindy teachers will be discussing the Kindy Home Reading Program, which will commence in week 3.  We hope you can make it!

Fish of the Day

Next week we will be starting something new in our classroom called 'Fish of the Day'. This is a way to celebrate all the wonderful children in our classroom. At the end of each day I will randomly pick a child's photo out of the bucket to be our Fish of the Day (FOD). I close my eyes so even I don't know who it is going to be. Their photo will be displayed on a special poster on our communication board outside our classroom. When they are the FOD they get to hold our special fish called Grover and they get to sit on the couch with a friend during mat time and rest time. They also get to be the line leader for the day as well as do other special jobs. The kids are all very excited! We will only be doing this on a Wednesday and a Friday, not on Tuesdays. This will begin on Wednesday next week and Layla is our very first Fish of the Day.

Term Three

 Holiday Photo

Please remind your child to bring a photo to school on Wednesday (first day of term) of something they have done on the holidays to help trigger their memory. It can be a photo of anything!

 

Progress Files

I hope you have enjoyed looking at your child's grey Progress File. Please return it to school as soon as possible and make sure you sign the front cover. Feel free to write a comment to your child also :)

 

Tuesdays

The science theme for this term on a Tuesday is Living and Non Living things. Mrs Clark will be exploring 'mini beasts'  and would love for every child to bring a shoe box to school on their first Tuesday of the term. If you have more than one shoe box, please bring them to school next Tuesday just in case someone forgets.

Teaching Sounds

This term in Kindy we will formally be teaching sounds. Each week we will be teaching a different letter/sound and we will revise each letter/ sound every three weeks. Although we will be covering both the letter name and the sound it makes, our main focus is the sound, so please encourage discussing these sounds at home each week. We understand that some children may already know their sounds, these children will be extended as needed.

Morning Routines

Between 8.30 - 8.45 this term we will be starting to do different activities in the mornings. On Wednesday mornings children will be able to do different fine motor activities at the table tops before doing books and puzzles. Please encourage children to do as many of the activities before the siren as possible. These activities are designed to increase children's hand strength, pencil grip and coordination. The activities will stay the same for a fortnight.

On a Friday children will be asked to complete their 'Morning Sound Book'. This will involve having a go at tracing the letter we have learned that week as well as writing the letter and colouring the pictures that start with that sound. On the weeks that we do revision children will be able to catch up with any pages they have missed or finish off any colouring.

Class Themes

This term we will be covering two themes: The Ocean and Insects. We will be doing 'The Ocean' theme for the first half of term and 'Insects' for the second of the term. We will be reading lots of fiction and non-fiction texts as well as integrating literacy and mathematics activities around these themes.

50 Days of Kindy

On Friday 31st July we will be celebrating 50 Days at Kindy. We will be doing lots of activities based around the number 50 as well as lots of counting. It will be an extremely fun day! Keep an eye out for lots of photos.

Shoe Boxes

Next term we will be learning all about Mini Beasts. Mrs Clarke will be making homes for mini beasts and would love for every child to bring in a shoe box on their first Tuesday next term (week two).

Denim Day

On Friday 3rd July, the last day of term, the whole school is having a Denim Day. Children can wear any denim to school ie: jeans, shorts, a skirt etc with any top or their school top. The P&C are asking for all children wearing denim to school to bring in a gold coin donation. All money will go towards the Year Six graduation.

Upcoming Events at Kindy

I cannot believe we are approaching the end of term already! Just a few reminders about what's happening in Kindy:

Open Night

On Wednesday 1st July our school is having an Open Night from 5.30pm - 7.00pm to explore our whole school inquiry question 'How do we use Maths in our World?' Please feel free to come along and look at what your children have been doing. You can walk through all the classrooms if you like and see the progression across the year levels. Teachers are not required to be in the classroom, as it is a time for us to look at other classes too. Please be aware that this is not a time to discuss your child's progress, if you have any questions regarding your child please book a time to talk with me.

As we will be busy putting up their work we ask that you do a 'Kiss and Drop' at Kindy starting from this Thursday. This means that you say goodbye to your children off at the door so you don't see any of their special work before the BIG night.

Progress Files

At Aubin Grove we have progress files, which we use to show your child's progress in key learning areas. The tasks in these files are completed at the beginning of the year and the end of the year, so you can see your child's development. The activities in these files are common assessment tasks, which are completed in every year level. Some of these work samples were completed in Term One and therefore your child will have progressed further since then.

These folders will be sent home for you to look at this Friday. If possible, please return back to school by next Friday before the holidays.

I hope you enjoy looking at your child's work. Please ensure each piece of work stays in the same sleeve and please make sure you sign the cover page and write a comment (if you want to) underneath. Folders will come home again in Term Four for you to see the progress your child has made at Kindy.

 Home Reading

Next term we will be commencing our Kindergarten Home Reading Program. We will be having a Parent Information Session on Tuesday 28th July at 7.00pm. More information will be sent home about this soon.

Father's Day

Next term we will be having a Father's Day morning on Friday 4th September from 9.00 - 10.00am, which we would love for Dads to attend. I will put a sign up sheet up on our communication board next term but I just wanted to let everyone know the date, so you can make any necessary arrangements. Dads are welcome to stay for a play outside and leave at 10.30am if they want to.

Class Reminders

Mrs Aldersea

Yay! Yippeee! Hooray! Mrs Aldersea is back! All the kids have been so happy to see her and have filled her bucket up by giving her lots of big cuddles.

Pyjama Day

This Friday is Pyjama Day to celebrate Winter Solstice. Children can wear their pyjamas to school with sensible shoes, no slipper please. Children can also bring their favourite teddy to school too. We cannot wait to see them in their PJ's.

Peter Combe

Next term on Thursday 23rd July Peter Combe is coming to Aubin Grove for a concert. It is on a Thursday so it is not on a day your child is at school. If you are interested in still coming to the concert, you will need to fill out the permission slip and return it to the office with the payment. Parents will be responsible for supervising their children at the concert as I will be looking after The Clever Crab's class.

**Notes will be sent home this Wednesday.

Subway

On Friday 3rd July, the last day of term, the canteen will be closed. On this day students are invited to order Subway for lunch. Please make sure the order forms and correct payment are returned to the P&C box outside the office by 2.30pm on Tuesday 23rd June.

 The West Australian Schools Wish List

**Message from the P&C

 

Our school is registered to be part of The West Australian Schools Wish List. Our school has to collect as many vouchers from The West Australian papers on Sat 13th, 20th & 27th June, which will see the school in a chance to a share in $20 000 to go towards supplies for our kiddies at school! There is a $5000 for 1st random drawn and $5000 for most entries and more.
 

The P&C have put a collection box in each classroom so please start collecting the vouchers from this weekend. If you know any business that has papers delivered on a Saturday and wouldn't mind giving us the vouchers out of the paper too, that would be great also.
